For the most part, I believe that artists love their jobs. We create, we manifest ideas. The result of our work is tangible. Our work is meant to be shared and enjoyed by others. Our work is a part of us, it is a child of our ideas and talents.
The creative process is the part that we all love, whether it is putting a brush to canvas or writing a poem. The expression or communication of our emotions and ideas is what our work is all about.
Unfortunately, there is the other side of our work that many of us are not adept at. Marketing and running a business. Art school never prepares you for the reality of being an artist. Is it no wonder that so many talented artists are no famous until after their death.
You don't need business skills to create a good work of art, but you do need business skills to become a successful artist.
